Appreciating the Works and Talks of the President

Here comes the day. The historical day. The day where politicians are like kings and queens because of their expensive and aesthetic dresses. They are more likely to have a fashion show regarding to what they wear. They are wearing the famous Filipiniana and Barong that represent the Filipinos. However, the day is not about that.  It’s all about an annual event where the president of the country reports to his or her citizens about the status of their nation. He informs the nation about its political and social condition. The president may also summarize his achievements and also he can share his plans for the betterment of the country. But why does there is a class and work suspension on the day of SONA?

President Rodrigo Duterte delivered his third (3rd) State of the Nation Address speech on July 23 of this year. I saw a lot of reactions on his talks. Some Filipinos occupied the streets protesting against Duterte Administration and some stayed at home because they don’t want to missed any second watching President Duterte’s words. By watching, it helps us to know what is going on in our country because his speech matters. Some of the reactions I heard was “ I'm not that very happy on his talks” and “His words has a point”.

“Your concern is human rights, mine is human lives” said Mr. President relating to war on drugs. My opinion is living is a human rights. Nothing will happen if you value human lives but not our rights. Human rights is protecting the right to live, that is the point of human rights.

Classes and works were suspended where the SONA will be done due to road closures and to support the security measures. It is also expected that anti- Duterte protesters will flock the area.

Mr. President’s third State of the Nation Address has been the best one. Everything he said for more than half an hour is what the nation needs right now. No boasting of achievements and answering lot of questions from the most pressing issues of today. Hopefully, Filipinos will know that it is hard to lead a country especially to solve all the problems that we are facing right now. Think about that and just try to appreciate the achievements that he had done for our country.

HUMAN BEING APPLYING THE THEME

Philippines is a country who is concern about the health of its citizen. Every month of July, the country celebrates the nutrition month. Applying the themes in our lifestyle plays an important role. It secures us from any diseases and it also indicates that doing healthy diet can prevent us from malnutrition. According to a survey from Wikipedia, there are 815 million people who are malnourished and 406,000 died because of this condition. So, if we apply the themes in our lifestyle, we can take care of our health. May our health be our wealth for us to live our life free from diseases and in that we can maximize our talents or skills to pursue our goals.

“Ugaliing Magtanim, Sapat na Nutrisyon Aanihin!”. This year’s theme has the aim of the importance of gardening in Pilipino families. The improvement of food and nutrition security by increasing access to a diversified source of food. The focus is on agriculture, fruit, vegetables, and crops. The theme says “ Be a farmer. Provide your community with nutritious foods”. It would be greater if you include your family in planting.

But there is a problem. There may be vegetables or fruits but some of us are more likely to eat or buy non nutritious foods. They say “ Why do we have to eat vegetables? Is it enough for the needs of our body? Does it maintain our healthy condition? What are the benefits we get by eating those? Will our country’s problem be solved if we serve this daily?”. Well, it is a big YES. Serving nutritious foods can make us stronger, we can study well, we’ll be able to think well. Then our minds will apply the lessons we learned. In that case, we can solved the problem of our country, because when your mind is good, nothing is difficult. Then we can have a prosperous life.

“ All the flowers of all the tomorrows are in the seed of today”. Start planting so that you will harvest in the future. What we enjoy tomorrow is a result of how we start today. If we start it in our own way and then people will realize that planting is a good deed. Everyone will encourage to plant also in their gardens. Sooner or later, everyone will be enthusiastic and healthy.

Letter to the President

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte
President of the Philippines
Malacañang Palace Manila

Mr. President,

I am Kyla Claire Reclusado, a fifteen year old student of Ilocos Sur. I do not know you personally but all I enjoy right now or my freedom to do things is my indulgence to you. I owe you.

You have returned the trust and respect of Filipinos in the Governmental Office by fulfilling your promise to meet the long-term corruption of our society.

I am grateful for the support you provide to every Filipino and the programs and laws that you implemented but I am deeply concerned about the events that shook our country and the slow response of the government to the problems.

As a nation, we have to be one and follow the footsteps of our ancestors who lived in peace. It is for the development of future generations and the future of our country so they are comfortable in living. I promise I will take any responsibilities as a student and a child. I hope you will do the best you can.  Let's work together.

Thank you Mr. President. may God give you along life with good health despite all the problems you are facing as the leader of our beloved country.

                                                                                                                  Yours sincerely,
                                                                                                                  Kyla Claire Reclusado

Celebrating by Remembering

Freedom covers a wide range of meanings. It may be freedom from conquerors, freedom from violence  and war or freedom from ideology, culture and influences of foreigners. In July , the freedom we celebrate is freedom against the Spanish Colonialist in 1898. It is the freedom of various movements and revolutions that deserved social change. Independence Day is one of most significant dates in Philippine history.

In celebrating the day of freedom, the day is not important that we should be celebrated. What matters is the reason why we celebrate and how we apply it. We must live with the history of our country. We should go back to historical events because it fells us who we are. We Filipinos must be a true Filipino with love for the people and fellow Filipinos.

The freedom we have is that we should be grateful for the sacrificial heroes to attain it. We can gain this freedom if we put all our dedication into it. This is the reason why we need to celebrate freedom, not just on July 4 but everyday. We celebrate Independence for us to show our love for our country. We should remember Independence Day by remembering the sacrifices of our heroes, not by having no classes.
