Appreciating the Works and Talks of the President

Here comes the day. The historical day. The day where politicians are like kings and queens because of their expensive and aesthetic dresses. They are more likely to have a fashion show regarding to what they wear. They are wearing the famous Filipiniana and Barong that represent the Filipinos. However, the day is not about that.  It’s all about an annual event where the president of the country reports to his or her citizens about the status of their nation. He informs the nation about its political and social condition. The president may also summarize his achievements and also he can share his plans for the betterment of the country. But why does there is a class and work suspension on the day of SONA?

President Rodrigo Duterte delivered his third (3rd) State of the Nation Address speech on July 23 of this year. I saw a lot of reactions on his talks. Some Filipinos occupied the streets protesting against Duterte Administration and some stayed at home because they don’t want to missed any second watching President Duterte’s words. By watching, it helps us to know what is going on in our country because his speech matters. Some of the reactions I heard was “ I'm not that very happy on his talks” and “His words has a point”.

“Your concern is human rights, mine is human lives” said Mr. President relating to war on drugs. My opinion is living is a human rights. Nothing will happen if you value human lives but not our rights. Human rights is protecting the right to live, that is the point of human rights.

Classes and works were suspended where the SONA will be done due to road closures and to support the security measures. It is also expected that anti- Duterte protesters will flock the area.

Mr. President’s third State of the Nation Address has been the best one. Everything he said for more than half an hour is what the nation needs right now. No boasting of achievements and answering lot of questions from the most pressing issues of today. Hopefully, Filipinos will know that it is hard to lead a country especially to solve all the problems that we are facing right now. Think about that and just try to appreciate the achievements that he had done for our country.
